WORKERS/ASSEMBLIES
2008
collages, 30cm x 21cm; 40cm x 29cm

Working class: an unavoidable part of development and progress of society, bearers of revolutions, victims of ideologies, a segment in the labour market.
Materials used in this work were taken from books from the time of socialist Yugoslavioa and imported fashion magazines from the time of parliamentary democracy. The very act of collaging merges the two ideologies, the old and the new, producing new values. Workers exist, work in both contexts, but with different aims and values.
Banners, slogans and flags represent a set of ambitions and thoughts, relevant for a specific social period and context. Seen from today’s perspective they seem like shattered phrases, ghosts of the past and as such become an undesirable element in today’s society which, in its movement, negates the existance of the previous one or ignores it, pointing to the ephemerality and replacability of values.
